Deep Tissue Massage
What Is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage can reduce pain and improve the suppleness and flexibility of muscles and joints by eliminating toxins, decreasing tone, trigger points, scar tissue and adhesion's in muscles, ligament's and tendons. This type of massage may be “uncomfortable” at times, but is often described as a "good discomfort" and I always work within a clients preference.
Deep tissue massage also improves circulation, cell nutrition, and reduces the recovery time of damaged or stressed tissues.
How Is Deep Tissue Massage Different To Other Types of Massage?
Some of the basic techniques in deep tissue massage can be the same as those used in other forms of therapeutic massage, but techniques are applied more deeply and firmly. Some techniques are designed to shift an old or chronic injury back into its acute stage, to trigger the body's natural healing process to complete the process of repair.
A regular deep tissue massage (maintenance massage) is recommended if you're always pushing your body physically or have sedentary jobs with prolonged fixed postures or highly physical repetitive jobs.
Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage may include but are not limited to:
- Reduces occurrence of repetitive strain injuries from work and muscle overuse from frequent/intense sports training
- Increases blood flow around the body, flushing out waste products and cleansing internal organs and oxygenation
- Improved rate of tissue repair
- Pain relief in muscles and joints
- Increased range of motion and decreased joint stiffness
- Increased recovery after strenuous exercise
- Helps to relieve symptoms of stress, tension and improves mood by stimulation of endorphins
- Reduced risk of further injury
