Sports Massage
What Is Sports Massage?
Sports Massage is a form of deep tissue massage, which can decrease pain and improve the suppleness and flexibility of muscles and joints by eliminating toxins, decreasing tone, trigger points, scar tissue and adhesion's in muscles, ligament's and tendons. This type of massage may be “uncomfortable” at times, but is often described as a "good discomfort" and I always work within a clients preference.
Sports massage also improves circulation, cell nutrition, and reduces the recovery time of damaged or stressed tissues
How Is Sports Massage Different To Other Types of Massage?
Some of the basic techniques in sports massage can be the same as those used in other forms of therapeutic massage, but the therapist applies the techniques more deeply and firmly. Some techniques are designed to shift an old or chronic injury back into its acute stage, to trigger the body's natural healing process to complete the process of repair.
A regular sports massage (maintenance massage) is recommended if you are always pushing your body physically. How long you should go between treatments depends on the frequency and intensity of your training session and best discussed following the initial treatment.
Benefits of Sports Massage may include but are not limited to:
- Reduces occurrence of repetitive strain injuries and muscle overuse from frequent/intense sports training
- Increases blood flow around the body, flushing out waste products and cleansing internal organs and oxygenation
- Improved rate of tissue repair
- Pain relief in muscles and joints
- Increased range of motion and decreased joint stiffness
- Increased recovery after strenuous exercise
- Helps to relieve symptoms of stress, tension and improves mood by stimulation of endorphins
- Reduced risk of further injury
